Vintage Design
This model Power Play chair was designed by Frank O. Gehry in 1990 and manufactured by Knoll International in 1993. The piece is made from natural maple bands and veneer strips 5 cm wide and 0.8 mm thick. It is laminated in 6 to 9 layers with high-strength urea glue. In order to improve the suspension properties, all veneers extend in the same direction. Thanks to the thermosetting mounting adhesive, the structural strength is achieved almost without a metal connector and at the same time ensures ergonomic movements and flexibility. The backrest is flexible and comfortable, and no mounting adhesives were used in the woven seat surfaces for the best tension-compression behavior; the fabric gives way and thus offers a sprung seat comfort. The glides are in clear plastic with a matt surface. The Power Play slats are individually adjusted to ensure a high sitting comfort, and the seat and armrests are fixed by means of countersunk screws.
