The Loop Chair was created by the Swiss designer Willy Guhl in 1954, featuring a single volume of seats and backs. The original edition of Loop Chairs were fabricated by Eternit, made from a whole plate of fiber-cement and molded while still fresh. The fiber-cement pieces were originally produced in grey color and are suitable for indoor and outdoor uses. Very weather-resistant and sturdy.
This collectible set is in very good condition and was carefully cleaned with light-pressure water earlier this year. None of the pieces have ever been painted. The table does exhibit a fracture (shown in pic) but is functional when set in place.
Willy Guhl was a Swiss creative, considered one of the first “industrial” designers in his home country. He pioneered a rugged, organic style of modern furniture and decor — stylish planters, shapely seating and more — that remains widely coveted by many today.
Guhl is well-known for the designer’s iconic Loop chair (introduced in 1954). For this sculptural seat and other furnishings, Guhl utilized industrial materials, which he bent and shaped into organic forms for a striking juxtaposition. Much of his work is crafted from either concrete or Eternit, a mixture of cement and asbestos developed by the Belgian company Etex.
