Oneida Ltd, formerly Oneida Community, was established in Oneida, New York in 1848 by a utopian commune. Oneida started production of silver-plated flatware and hollow-ware in 1899. Oneida purchased the Wm A. Rogers company in 1929. The Wm A. Rogers firm was founded in the 1890s by Wm. A. Rogers, a small storekeeper of New York using the “(R) ROGERS (R)” trademark from c. 1901 and the “1881 (R) ROGERS (R)” from c. 1910. The “1881 (R) ROGERS (R)” markings are seen on the back of each piece in this set, manufactured by Oneida in 1959.
