Post impressionist, abstract figurative painting. Framed and signed oil on board. Signature, “De La Roche,” is found embedded in the paint of the bottom right-hand corner.
Janet Ament de la Roche was born in Hollywood, California in 1916. She studied painting at the Otis, Chouinard, and Jepson art institutes in Los Angeles. In 1947 she married artist Victor Di Gesu and the couple traveled and painted through Europe doing further studies in Paris and Barcelona. In 1956 they settled back in California and continued their work. Janet’s paintings has been shown at the Louvre and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
We have confirmed the authenticity of this painting with an expert on Di Gesu and De La Roche’s work and a close friend of the couple.
